Angelina Gomez of Austin High heads to Naval Academy after receiving nomination

During a recent government meeting focused on the achievements of local seniors, Angelina Gomez, a standout student from Austin High School, shared her inspiring journey toward attending the Naval Academy. Gomez, who has received a nomination from Congressman Lloyd Doggett, highlighted the rigorous process involved in securing her place at the prestigious institution in Annapolis, Maryland.

Gomez described the challenges she faced, including a demanding fitness test, an extensive medical examination, and the completion of over 20 essays. Despite the hurdles, she expressed her determination to embrace the next four years as an opportunity for personal growth and leadership development. "I really wanted to do a college experience that was gonna mold me for my future," she stated, emphasizing her commitment to overcoming obstacles.

Her high school experience has been enriched by her involvement in athletics, particularly as a captain of the girls' basketball team during her junior and senior years. This role has not only provided her with leadership experience but also a sense of community, as nearly 50 members of her family are alumni of Austin High.
