Tampa City Council elects Alan Clendenin and Guido Maniscalco as leaders for 2025

The Tampa City Council convened on May 1, 2025, to conduct elections for the positions of chairman and chairman Pro Tem, as well as to address various agenda items. The meeting began with the election process, where nominations for chairman were opened. Councilman Alan Clendenin and Councilman Guido Maniscalco were nominated. Following a vote, Councilman Maniscalco secured the chairmanship with a majority of four votes.

Next, nominations for chairman Pro Tem were made, with Councilman Clendenin nominated again, while Councilman Carlson withdrew his name from consideration. Clendenin was confirmed as chairman Pro Tem without opposition.

The meeting then transitioned to the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) discussions. Councilman Luis Viera was nominated and accepted the position of vice chair of the CRA, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve.

After the elections, the council moved on to procedural matters, including the adoption of minutes from previous meetings and the approval of the agenda. Council member Hercai requested the removal of item number seven from the agenda due to a lack of updates from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). The council agreed to this request and also made a motion to ask FDOT for updates on various mobility projects in the area.

Additionally, the council addressed a misnotice regarding item number 61, which was subsequently removed from the agenda. A public hearing for this item was rescheduled for June 6, 2025.
