The board also honored the Miracle League of Arlington with the Community Partner Award of Appreciation. This organization provides opportunities for children and young adults with disabilities to participate in baseball, collaborating with AISD’s Special Education Department and various student programs to foster inclusivity and community spirit.
In administrative updates, the board ratified the hiring of Taina Northington as the new chief communications officer. Northington, an award-winning communications professional and former Emmy-winning journalist, brings a wealth of experience from Killeen ISD.
Scott Kell, AISD's chief talent officer, presented a compensation analysis, comparing the district's pay rates with competitors and discussing recent legislative updates affecting compensation and healthcare contributions for staff.
The board approved an agreement with Texas Child Health Access through Telemedicine, which will provide students with free access to mental health services via telehealth platforms. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding with the University of North Texas Health Science Center was reapproved, allowing students in the Bowie High School PTEC program to gain valuable exposure to the healthcare field through various educational experiences.
