University of Michigan expands Go Blue Guarantee for low-income students

The University of Michigan is set to enhance educational access and affordability for students across the state, following a significant commitment made during a recent government meeting focused on higher education appropriations. University representatives highlighted their ongoing efforts to provide financial support and innovative programs aimed at reducing student debt and increasing graduation rates.

At the meeting, officials from the University of Michigan emphasized their mission to serve the people of Michigan and beyond, showcasing their strategic plan aimed at transforming the university into a leading public institution. With over 52,000 students enrolled from all 83 counties in Michigan, the university is proud to report a graduation rate significantly above the national average, with 96% of students completing their degrees within six years.

A key highlight was the announcement of the expanded "Go Blue Guarantee," which will now offer tuition-free education to students from families earning less than $25,000 annually. This initiative is expected to benefit nearly 2,200 additional in-state undergraduate students across the university's campuses in Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint. The university also introduced a new graduate-level guarantee for Master of Social Work students, covering tuition, fees, and housing costs.

In addition to these guarantees, the university reported that 226 million dollars in funded scholarships are available to support students, ensuring that thousands can pursue their education without incurring significant debt. Currently, only 34% of graduates leave with any student debt, the lowest percentage among Michigan public universities.
