Pacific Grove Board recognizes students' achievements in robotics and academics

Pacific Grove Unified School District (PGUSD) held a significant board meeting on May 1, 2025, where several key decisions and recognitions took center stage, highlighting the district's commitment to student achievement and community engagement.

The meeting commenced with a land acknowledgment, honoring the traditional territories of the Ohlone, Koisenoan, and Esselen peoples. Following this, the board adopted the agenda with a minor revision regarding contract details for two elementary schools, passing unanimously with a 3-0 vote due to the absence of two trustees.

A major highlight of the evening was the presentation by the Breaker Bots, a robotics team from Pacific Grove High School. The team showcased their achievements in the FIRST Robotics Competition, where they earned multiple awards and demonstrated their robot's capabilities. The presentation underscored the importance of STEM education and community involvement, as the team has actively participated in local events and inspired younger students.

The board also recognized Anthony Garcia Trinidad, a senior from Community High School, who received the Association of California School Administrators' Every Student Succeeding Award. This accolade celebrates students who have overcome challenges and achieved academic success. Principal Greg O'Meara praised Anthony's resilience and growth, emphasizing his positive impact on peers.

Additionally, the board honored outgoing student representatives William Powley, Grace Sousa, and Juliet Gorman for their contributions throughout the year. Their leadership and advocacy for student voices were acknowledged, with Powley set to attend Brigham Young University, Sousa heading to UC San Diego, and Gorman enrolling at Chapman University.

The meeting concluded with a sense of pride in the district's accomplishments and a commitment to fostering an environment where students can thrive.
