Calhoun President Jimmy Hodges awards scholarships to Class of 2025 students

The Sparkman High School Senior Awards Day held on May 3, 2025, celebrated the achievements of the graduating class with a heartfelt ceremony recognizing both academic and athletic excellence. The event, attended by faculty, staff, students, and families, highlighted the dedication and hard work of the seniors over their high school years.

Dr. Jimmy Hodges, representing Calhoun, presented various scholarships to deserving students, including multiple cheer scholarships awarded to Scarlett Gokey, Ashley Potts, Riley Beth Rowe, and Sydney Ratcliffe. Additionally, Cara Berman received a cheer scholarship, while Lily O'Neil was honored with a women's flag football scholarship. Elizabeth Walker was recognized with the Principal's Choice Scholarship, and Nia Williams, William Dottie, and Juan Jazazo received academic first-time freshman scholarships.

Mr. Shoemaker, the assistant principal and athletic director, emphasized the importance of balancing academics and athletics, reminding students that they are "student athletes" first. He praised the seniors for their achievements in both the classroom and on the field, noting that many had excelled in advanced courses and various honor societies. The ceremony also recognized scholar athletes who maintained a core GPA of 3.75 or higher, a significant accomplishment given their commitments to sports and extracurricular activities.

The event concluded with a nod to the outdoor track and field team, which was competing at the state meet, showcasing the school's commitment to excellence in all areas. The awards ceremony not only celebrated individual achievements but also reinforced the community's support for its students, encouraging them to continue striving for success in their future endeavors.
