President Michael Gandhi speaks at Sierra Leone's 64th Independence Ceremony in Lowell

Lowell City, MA, celebrated the 64th Independence Day of Sierra Leone with a vibrant flag-raising ceremony on May 3, 2025. The event, attended by community leaders and members of the Sierra Leonean diaspora, highlighted the significance of this milestone in the nation’s history.

Keynote speaker Michael Gandhi, the elected president of the Organization of Sierra Leone Americans in New England, delivered a heartfelt address reflecting on the sacrifices made by the nation’s forefathers. "This day inspires us to dedicate ourselves to a cause for our nation," Gandhi stated, emphasizing the importance of honoring those who fought for Sierra Leone's freedom.
