Chino Valley is considering the introduction of motorcycle barrel racing events, a proposal that has sparked both interest and concern among community members. During the Planning and Zoning meeting on March 4, 2025, discussions centered around the potential impact of these events, especially following the recent closure of motorcycle races at Old Home Manor due to public outcry.
The proposal, presented by Mike Olsen of Olsen Events, aims to host motorcycle barrel races in a more populated area, which has raised questions about noise and safety. Olsen emphasized that the format of the event involves only one motorcycle racing at a time, which he believes minimizes disruption compared to traditional motocross events that feature multiple bikes racing simultaneously.

He explained that the event format pairs motorcycle riders with horseback riders, with times from both segments combined to determine winners.
While the staff has shown support for the proposal, the commission remains cautious, considering the community's previous concerns regarding motorcycle racing. The meeting provided an opportunity for the commission to gather more information and gauge public sentiment before making a final decision.
As discussions continue, the outcome of this proposal could significantly influence local recreational opportunities and community dynamics in Chino Valley. The commission is expected to deliberate further on the implications of introducing motorcycle barrel racing, weighing the benefits of community engagement against potential noise and safety concerns.
