In a world increasingly aware of the importance of forests, the Forum on Forests 2025 (UNFF20) stands as a beacon of international cooperation. This unique platform, the only global intergovernmental body with universal membership dedicated to forest-related issues, convenes member states, international organizations, civil society, and private sectors to address the pressing challenges facing forests today.
Since its inception, the forum has been pivotal in fostering political commitment to sustainable forest management. It has facilitated collaboration among countries and institutions, extending its influence both within and beyond the United Nations system. The journey began with the adoption of forest principles at the Rio Summit in 1992, marking a significant milestone in global forest governance.

Notably, it has produced international forest instruments and a global strategic plan for forests, both endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly. In February 2015, the forum adopted a comprehensive 15-year roadmap for international forest arrangements, with a midterm review scheduled for February 2024 and a final review set for February 2030.
During its nineteenth session last year, the forum successfully completed this midterm review, culminating in the adoption of an omnibus resolution and a high-level declaration. These outcomes now serve as a guiding roadmap for the international community until 2030, reinforcing the forum's role as a critical player in the global effort to protect and sustainably manage the world's forests.
As discussions continue to unfold, the Forum on Forests remains committed to addressing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, ensuring that forests are preserved for future generations.
