La Habra schedules summer events including Movies in the Park and July 4 celebration

The City of La Habra held a council meeting on May 5, 2025, where several community events and initiatives were discussed, highlighting the city's commitment to engaging residents and promoting local activities as summer approaches.

The meeting began with an announcement of the "Movies in the Park" series, set to kick off with a screening of "The Sandlot" on May 16 at Portola Park. Residents are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for the event, which starts at 6 PM.

Following this, the council outlined a household hazardous waste and shred event scheduled for May 17, from 8 AM to 12 PM at the La Habra Public Works Yard. This event is exclusively for La Habra residents, who must provide proof of residency.

The agenda continued with details about a senior dance on May 18 at the La Habra Community Center, featuring live music, dancing, and dinner for a fee of $12 per person. Pre-registration is recommended.

A significant highlight was the "Party in the Park" event on May 24, celebrating the city's centennial year. This event will take place from 10 AM to 2 PM at Portola Park and will include a foam party, water games, crafts, and a mobile children's museum.

The council also announced a "Kids Night Out Fiesta" on May 30, offering children aged 4 to 12 a night filled with games, crafts, and a movie for $25 per child. Registration is required through the La Habra Community Center.

Additionally, the La Habra Active Day Camp will run from June 2 to August 8, providing activities for youth aged 5 to 12. Registration costs $60, with weekly camp fees set at $200, or $190 with a sibling discount.

The meeting also covered plans for the Fourth of July celebration, which will take place at La Bonita Park from 4 PM to 9 PM. Tickets are priced at $8 for children and $10 for adults, with festivities including food vendors, games, live music, and fireworks.

The La Habra Concerts in the Park series will return on July 10, featuring a Bruno Mars cover band, with concerts scheduled throughout July and August.

Lastly, the council reminded residents about ongoing water conservation efforts, emphasizing irrigation restrictions and guidelines to promote responsible water use.
