The City of Gilroy is set to enhance its community services and infrastructure following key decisions made during the City Council meeting on May 5, 2025. Among the most significant outcomes was the approval of a $243,076 contract with William Duff Architects for renovations at two existing fire stations, Chestnut and Los Animas. This initiative aims to modernize facilities to better accommodate current firefighting standards and improve living conditions for firefighters. The project also includes a comprehensive seismic assessment to ensure the long-term safety and stability of the stations.
In addition to fire station renovations, the council discussed the introduction of a new book program for children, funded by a $5 million grant from the Dolly Parton Foundation, which will provide free age-appropriate books to foster a love of reading and education among local youth.
