In a significant agenda item, the commissioners were asked to approve a proclamation for National Police Week, which honors officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The week, established by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, will include a candlelight vigil in Longview on May 14, where the names of fallen officers will be read aloud. The local law enforcement community emphasized the importance of recognizing these sacrifices and fostering community support for police officers.
Additionally, Public Works presented plans for a Countywide Lineator Project, aimed at improving road safety with federal funding for delineators along rural roads. The project is set to open bids on June 9.
