Community Resources announces second annual homeownership event in Monte Vista

Community spirit shone brightly at the Monte Vista City Council meeting on May 1, 2025, as Sheryl Smith from Community Resources and Housing Development announced an exciting event to celebrate National Homeownership Month. Scheduled for June 7, 2025, from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Tierra Del Sol subdivision, the second annual event promises a day filled with fun, including a Salida Circus performance, bouncy houses, face painting, and food trucks—all free for attendees. Smith emphasized the importance of honoring local homeowners and addressing community housing needs, inviting residents to tour four homes currently under construction.

In a heartwarming moment, the council recognized Mackenzie Wilk Montgomery with a Certificate of Honor for her heroic actions in January. Montgomery, who spotted a small child wandering alone in the street, took immediate action by wrapping her jacket around the child and ensuring his safety until help arrived. Sergeant Robert Pino praised her compassion and quick thinking, highlighting how her intervention significantly impacted the child's well-being.
