DeLand Fire Department welcomes five new probationary firefighters

The City of DeLand welcomed five new probationary firefighters during the City Commission meeting on April 21, 2025, marking a significant step in enhancing public safety and community service. The new recruits, who have successfully navigated a rigorous selection process, will undergo a year of training and evaluation before being officially pinned as permanent firefighters.

Firefighter Mike Palmer, a veteran with over 18 years of experience, was introduced first. Palmer, who previously served as a lieutenant paramedic, expressed his honor in joining the DeLand Fire Department, highlighting his commitment to the community and the support of his family.

Next was Carly Marini, a recent graduate from Seminole State College's fire standards program. Inspired by her father, a retired firefighter, Marini aims to further her education and become a paramedic, showcasing her dedication to public service.

Madison Alberts, who transitioned from a career in global trade to firefighting, shared her journey of overcoming challenges to earn her certifications. She thanked her family for their unwavering support and expressed her eagerness to contribute to the DeLand community.

Evan Insalaco, currently in paramedic school, emphasized his passion for teamwork and community service, while Brandon Bermudez, inspired by family members in the fire service, expressed his commitment to learning and growing within the department.

The city manager, Michael Place, concluded the introductions by emphasizing the support the new firefighters will receive as they embark on their careers. The community looks forward to seeing these dedicated individuals grow and serve DeLand in the coming years.
