The Roseville Parks & Recreation Commission meeting on May 5, 2025, highlighted significant developments in the city's golf courses, particularly celebrating the 30th anniversary of Wood Creek Golf Course and the 60th anniversary of Diamond Oaks Golf Course. Recreation Superintendent Rob Nakamura led the discussion, emphasizing the importance of these milestones and the ongoing improvements to enhance the golfing experience.
Nakamura announced a series of celebratory events scheduled for May 29 through June 1, including live music, food specials, and a Sunday brunch, aimed at attracting both seasoned golfers and newcomers. The recent Mayor's Cup tournament, themed around the 1990s, showcased community engagement, with proceeds supporting scholarships for local youth recreation programs. Last year, such events raised over $40,000, benefiting programs like Operation Swim and Sparks, which provide essential resources for children.

Nakamura reported a positive trend in golf rounds played, with both courses collectively exceeding 100,000 rounds annually, a rebound attributed to the pandemic's impact on outdoor activities. Notably, there has been an increase in participation among youth and women, indicating a shift in demographics that bodes well for the future of the sport in Roseville.
Key improvements discussed included a recent bunker renovation project at Wood Creek, which aimed to enhance playability and maintenance efficiency. The project involved redesigning and reducing the number of bunkers, which will help alleviate maintenance challenges and improve the overall condition of the course. Additionally, a turf conversion to Bermuda grass at Wood Creek is expected to yield better results during the summer months.
Looking ahead, the commission plans to conduct a comprehensive golf course conditions assessment to develop a 10-year improvement strategy, ensuring that both Diamond Oaks and Wood Creek continue to meet the needs of the community and provide a top-notch golfing experience.
