Mooresville declares May 11-17 2025 as Police Week honoring fallen officers

The Mooresville Board of Commissioners held a significant meeting on May 5, 2025, focusing on honoring law enforcement and recognizing outstanding contributions within the police department.

The meeting began with a heartfelt tribute to fallen officer Jordan Shelton, who was killed in the line of duty on May 4, 2019. The mayor emphasized the importance of remembering officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice, noting that since 1786, over 24,000 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty across the United States. The mayor called upon the citizens of Mooresville to observe the week of May 11 through May 17, 2025, as Police Week, encouraging community participation in ceremonies to honor both past and present officers. Additionally, May 15, 2025, was declared Peace Officers Memorial Day, with a memorial service scheduled for May 13 at 9 a.m. on the Town Hall lawn.

In another highlight of the meeting, the Board recognized Mooresville Police Department crime analyst Monet Correll for being named the 2024 Crime Analyst of the Year by the Carolinas Crime Analysis Association. Correll, who began her career with the department in 2016, has made significant contributions to public safety through her analytical work, particularly in enhancing the COPS initiative information-sharing network. Her recognition reflects her dedication and impact within the field of law enforcement.
