Davis County commissioners approve key agreements and updated animal service ordinances

Davis County officials announced significant updates during the Regular Commission Meeting on May 6, 2025, including a contract extension with Summit Foods for inmate services and a crucial amendment to animal care regulations.

Chief Deputy Arnold Butcher presented a written notice to extend the contract with Summit Foods for commissary and inmate banking services through February 2027. This extension follows a competitive bidding process and aims to ensure continued support for the county's correctional facilities.

In a move to modernize local animal care laws, Deputy Director Sydney Larabee introduced an ordinance amending outdated language regarding service animals. The revision aligns Davis County's regulations with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), expanding the definition of service animals beyond just hearing and seeing-eye dogs. This change reflects a growing recognition of the diverse roles service animals play in assisting individuals with disabilities.

The meeting also included the appointment of Jessica Groves to the Davis County Library Board, a decision made to fill a vacancy and enhance community engagement with local libraries. Additionally, the commission approved two interlocal agreements with Clearfield City for local transportation projects, including the reconstruction of 300 North and the Depot Street extension, both aimed at improving infrastructure and safety in the area.
