Clinton County officials are gearing up to maximize revenue from surplus emergency vehicles through a new online auction strategy. During the recent Commissioner Meeting on May 6, 2025, discussions highlighted the county's plan to auction off fully functioning police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances via a nationwide online platform.

The initiative aims to enhance the selling process by allowing the county to set a minimum bid for each vehicle. For instance, officials expressed a desire to secure at least $35,000 for an ambulance, with the auction facilitating negotiations with potential buyers across the country. This approach contrasts with traditional local bids, potentially yielding higher returns for the county.

In addition to operational vehicles, the county will also auction non-functioning units. These vehicles will be stripped of identifying decals and equipment before being sold at weekly auctions.
