Spanish Fort school seeks community volunteers for outdoor classroom project

Spanish Fort Elementary School is set to enhance its educational offerings with the construction of an outdoor classroom, thanks to funding from the Gulf Coast Conservation and Development Company. This innovative space will feature a frog bog, a log decomposition area, and butterfly and pollinator gardens, all designed to help students engage with Alabama's curriculum standards in science, math, and reading.

To bring this project to life, the school is calling on community members for assistance. Volunteers are needed on Thursday, May 15, from 8 AM to 3 PM, to help with the construction. Those who cannot physically participate are encouraged to contribute by providing snacks and hydration for the workers or lending tools for the project.

City officials are actively supporting this initiative, with plans to promote the volunteer opportunity through social media channels. Community involvement is crucial for the success of this outdoor classroom, which aims to create a hands-on learning environment for students.
