Canal Winchester City Council extends cannabis moratorium and approves Winchester Boulevard project

The Canal Winchester City Council took significant steps during their recent meeting on May 7, 2025, including the extension of a moratorium on adult-use cannabis operations. This resolution, sponsored by the chair, received unanimous support from council members, reflecting a cautious approach to cannabis regulation in the community.

In addition to the cannabis moratorium, the council addressed several ordinances. Notably, they accepted the dedication of real property from Sri Mengeshi LLC for public right-of-way use, and authorized the mayor to enter into an agreement with Architecture Ohio Incorporated for building department services. A key highlight was the approval of the Winchester Boulevard Improvements project. The council expedited the process by waiving the second and third readings, allowing for immediate action to meet contractual deadlines. Furthermore, the council introduced a new ordinance to rezone approximately 25.87 acres of land from a planned residential district to a new planned residential district, which includes a preliminary development plan.
