Lee County officials are moving forward with plans to enhance public access to waterways after approving a significant purchase agreement for a new boat ramp in South Lee County during the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) regular meeting on May 6, 2025. The board authorized the acquisition of a 5.2-acre tract of land on Multic Creek for $4.4 million, which will provide vital access to a sterile bay.
The decision comes after extensive negotiations and is expected to improve recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike. The purchase price aligns closely with appraisals, and the county will share in a 1% real estate commission, effectively reducing the cost by approximately $44,000. A $25,000 deposit is part of the agreement, with provisions allowing the county manager to terminate the contract if any issues arise during the survey or environmental assessments.

Subscribe for Free Commissioners expressed enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing the need for improved facilities to accommodate boaters while addressing past parking concerns in the residential area surrounding the site. The current boat ramp has limited capacity, and discussions included the potential for future enhancements to better serve the community.
In addition to the boat ramp project, the board also discussed ongoing negotiations with the local paramedic union, Local 1826, and scheduled an attorney-client session for May 20, 2025, to seek further direction on these negotiations.
The approval of the boat ramp project marks a significant step towards enhancing recreational access in Lee County, with the potential for improved traffic patterns and public use once existing structures are demolished. The county anticipates that the project will be completed within the next several months, paving the way for a more efficient and user-friendly facility for the community.
