Scott Heine recognizes Miller Strong award winners across local schools

Yukon Public Schools celebrated the outstanding achievements of its students during a heartfelt awards ceremony on May 7, 2025. The event highlighted the Miller Strong Awards, recognizing students who exemplify character, perseverance, and integrity across various schools in the district.

Scott Heine, the executive director of elementary education, kicked off the celebration, expressing his enthusiasm for honoring students alongside their dedicated principals. "We love celebrating kids with our great principals," Heine said, as he introduced the award winners.

Among the honorees was Avery Lavely from Surry Hills, praised for her hard work and educational progress. "She should be recognized for her perseverance and work ethic inside the classroom," Heine noted. Similarly, Alyanna Martinez from Meijer's was commended for her courage and integrity, consistently choosing to do what is right, even when no one is watching.

Other notable winners included Briggs Robinson from Central, recognized for his kindness and willingness to help others, and Briley Adams from Skyview, who was celebrated for her positive attitude and determination. Whisper Bohannon from Parkland demonstrated remarkable courage by adapting to a new school midyear, while River Borders from Shidex excelled academically and became an advocate for himself.

The ceremony also honored secondary students, including Mikaela O'Ruru from Redstone Intermediate, who was described as a natural leader, and Annalie Reyes from Independence, recognized for her role model qualities and commitment to her peers. Shanae Willis from Yukon Middle School was acknowledged for her perseverance, embodying the spirit of resilience.

The event concluded with a special mention of Kaylee Cagle from Yale, whose teacher praised her admirable qualities and strong work ethic. The Miller Strong Awards not only celebrated individual achievements but also reinforced the importance of character and community within Yukon Public Schools. As the district looks ahead, these young leaders are poised to inspire their peers and contribute positively to their schools and beyond.
