Lafayette Commission approves new speed humps along Glen Road for traffic calming

In a recent meeting of the Transportation & Circulation Commission in Lafayette, Contra Costa County, discussions centered on the implementation of new speed humps aimed at improving road safety. The commission considered the installation of three modern speed humps along Glen Road, which have been designed to be less abrupt than traditional models, standing at only 3.5 inches tall and featuring a wider profile. These modifications are intended to effectively slow down traffic without surprising drivers.

The commission's recommendation includes prioritizing the construction of two speed humps on a straightaway section of Glen Road, with a third hump contingent on additional funding from the city council. In addition to the speed hump discussion, the meeting highlighted upcoming community events, including "Bike to Work Day" on May 15, where the city will host an energizer station to encourage cycling. The commission also announced a public workshop scheduled for May 21 to discuss a downtown parking management study, which will include an online survey to gather community input.
