Mayor Proctor leads DeSoto City Council meeting and presents scholarships

The DeSoto City Council meeting on May 6, 2025, began with Mayor Rachel Proctor welcoming attendees and calling the meeting to order. The council members present included Mayor Pro Tem Leticia Hughes, Council members Perrette Parker, Nicole Raphael, Andre Byrd, Diana Marks, and Crystal Chisholm.

The meeting proceeded into an executive session to discuss personnel matters, specifically the evaluations of the municipal judge, city secretary, and city manager. After reconvening at 6:17 PM, Mayor Proctor announced that no action was taken as a result of the executive session.

The meeting continued with an invocation led by Pastor Marsha G. Smith from the Church on the Way, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, which was led by student ambassador Joshua Robles from Kingdom Collegiate Academies. Robles, a senior, shared his aspirations in the medical field and expressed his honor in representing his school.

The council then moved to presentations, starting with the Best Southwest scholarship award, which was presented by Mayor Proctor, along with Amanda Torres, a representative from the Best Southwest Partnership. This scholarship aims to support local students in their educational pursuits.

The meeting highlighted the council's commitment to community engagement and support for local youth, setting a positive tone for future initiatives. Further discussions and decisions from the council are anticipated in upcoming sessions.
