Doctor COG welcomes new staff and announces $6M contract for innovation pilot program

The Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) is making significant strides in its decarbonization efforts, as highlighted in a recent meeting on May 7, 2025. Exciting developments include the onboarding of new team members and the approval of substantial contracts aimed at advancing regional building decarbonization initiatives.

Among the new hires is Andy Burkey, a senior communications specialist with two decades of experience, and Fernando Briones, a senior LIDAC specialist focused on climate change and environmental resilience. Devon Riefsnyder joins as the senior workforce specialist, bringing a decade of workforce development experience, while Katie Maxted takes on the role of decarbonization contracts lead, with a strong background in federal grants.

In terms of program updates, DRCOG has selected VEIC to implement a $6 million innovation pilot program, which is expected to enhance energy efficiency efforts. Additionally, AD Works has been awarded $5.2 million for green workforce hubs, and the Building Decarbonization Coalition received $4.5 million for a contractor navigation hub. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to improve energy efficiency and support low-income households through upcoming programs.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of maintaining transparent communication with the EPA, with recent productive meetings fostering optimism for future collaboration.
