In a pivotal move to enhance public safety, the Morgan County Commission has approved an interlocal agreement with the Wasatch Peaks Road and Fire District to bolster fire and emergency medical services (EMS) in underserved areas. This agreement, discussed during the May 6 meeting, aims to establish an interim fire station and provide essential fire suppression and ambulance equipment, significantly improving response times for communities like Peterson, Enterprise, and Mount Green.
Under the terms of the agreement, Wasatch Peaks will cover 90% of the incremental costs, while the county will contribute the remaining 10%. This partnership is expected to reduce ambulance response times from 10 minutes to just 2 minutes in critical areas, a change that could save lives and enhance community safety.

This flexibility is crucial, as it ensures that the agreement can evolve based on the needs of the community and the effectiveness of the services provided.
Commissioners expressed optimism about the collaboration, highlighting the mutual benefits for both the county and the Wasatch Peaks community. The agreement not only aims to improve emergency response but also addresses the growing demand for services in rapidly developing areas.
As discussions continue, the focus remains on ensuring that residents are well-informed about the benefits of this partnership and the long-term plans for a permanent fire station, which is expected to be built once a sufficient number of homes are completed in the area. The interim station will be located near the old car wash in Peterson, strategically positioned to serve the community effectively.
This agreement marks a significant step forward in enhancing emergency services in Morgan County, reflecting a proactive approach to public safety and community welfare.
