Commission awards $156K pavement marking contract to Sir Line's Lot in Minneapolis

In a recent meeting of the Meeker County Board of Commissioners, Public Works Director Phil Schmals presented a significant contract for the 2025 pavement marking project, which aims to enhance road safety across the county. The project involves painting approximately 300 miles of road lines, utilizing about 1.6 million feet of paint. This annual initiative is crucial as it ensures that half of the county's road miles are marked each year, contributing to safer driving conditions.

Schmals recommended awarding the contract to Sir Lines a Lot, a Minneapolis-based company, for a total estimated cost of $156,413.56. This decision comes after a competitive bidding process that saw three bids submitted, indicating a positive trend towards increased competition in the local contracting market. The board noted that in previous years, fewer bids were received, which limited options for the county.

The pavement marking program uses lower-cost latex paints, which typically last about two seasons before needing replacement due to wear from weather and snow plows. This routine maintenance is separate from federal projects that also focus on road safety.

Commissioner Van Ort moved to approve the contract, with Commissioner Schmidt seconding the motion. The board unanimously supported the decision, reflecting a collective commitment to maintaining and improving the county's infrastructure.
