Santa Ana celebrates Reimagine's 75 years of service for individuals with disabilities

A significant milestone was celebrated at the Santa Ana City Council meeting on May 6, 2025, as Reimagine marked its 75th anniversary of providing vital services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Formerly known as the Rehabilitation Institute of Orange County, Reimagine has been a cornerstone of support for families in Santa Ana since 1950, offering programs that span from early intervention for toddlers to adult services and comprehensive health support.

Mayor Mesquita led the recognition, highlighting Reimagine's commitment to inclusion and dignity for all individuals. "Their unwavering belief in growth and accessibility sets them apart," she stated, emphasizing the importance of their family caregiver support groups that foster emotional connection and learning. The mayor shared her personal experience visiting Reimagine, expressing her admiration for the transformative work being done and the emotional connections formed with the community.

In addition to honoring Reimagine, the council also recognized the legacy of Jack Viridian, a dedicated educator who spent his career uplifting students in Santa Ana. Councilmember Hernandez presented a proclamation to Viridian's family, celebrating his commitment to education and the profound impact he had on countless students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds.

The meeting also acknowledged the Center for Teacher Education at Santa Ana College, which celebrated its 25th anniversary. This center has played a crucial role in shaping future educators, particularly for first-generation and bilingual students, and has established partnerships with several universities to create pathways for aspiring teachers.
