Mayor Stimpson proclaims May 2025 National Travel and Tourism Week in Mobile

Mobile City Council officially proclaimed May 2025 as National Travel and Tourism Week, highlighting the significant impact of the travel industry on the local economy. Mayor William S. Stimpson emphasized that nearly 3.5 million visitors traveled to Mobile in 2024, contributing approximately $1.9 billion in travel-related spending and supporting around 23,500 jobs in the sector. The mayor noted that the travel industry is vital for economic growth, fostering mutual understanding and connecting communities.

During the meeting, council members praised the efforts of Visit Mobile, particularly David and his team, for their effective marketing strategies that have attracted visitors to the city. Councilman Penn shared a personal anecdote about a couple who chose Mobile for their honeymoon after seeing a marketing ad, underscoring the importance of promoting the city’s unique culture and experiences.

In addition to tourism, the council recognized May as National Historic Preservation Month. Councilman William Carroll read a proclamation celebrating Mobile's rich history and the ongoing efforts to preserve its architectural heritage. He highlighted that investments in historic districts exceeded $327 million in the previous fiscal year, creating jobs and enhancing the local economy.

The meeting concluded with a call to action for the community to continue supporting tourism and preservation efforts, ensuring Mobile remains a vibrant destination for visitors and a cherished home for residents.
