Education leaders unveil One-Four-One-Four strategic plan for student achievement by 2030

A bold new educational strategy is taking shape in South Carolina, aiming for a significant leap in student achievement by 2030. During a recent Senate meeting, officials unveiled the "one-four-one-four" strategic plan, which sets an ambitious goal: to ensure that at least 75% of students are at or above grade level by February 2030.

Central to this plan are four three-year objectives, with a focus on advancing evidence-based instruction in foundational skills. This includes the implementation of the Science of Reading and the Palmetto Math Project. The initiative has received substantial backing, with nearly $40 million allocated by the legislature two years ago to enhance professional learning for K-3 teachers.

By the end of the 2025-2026 school year, every K-3 teacher in the state is expected to complete the LETRS program, which emphasizes phonics as a core component of reading instruction. Currently, around 20,000 teachers are either in training or have already completed the program, with financial incentives provided upon completion.

This strategic plan not only aims to elevate educational standards but also reflects a commitment to equipping teachers with the necessary tools to foster student success. As South Carolina moves forward, the focus will remain on achieving these critical educational milestones, with updates expected every 90 days to ensure progress is on track.
