On May 1, 2025, Ralston Middle School hosted its 6th Grade Informational Night, providing an overview of the programs and activities available to incoming sixth graders. The event highlighted the school’s commitment to fostering a supportive and engaging environment for students transitioning from elementary to middle school.
A key focus of the evening was the Wayfinder Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program, which is integrated into the school’s curriculum. Every Wednesday, teachers conduct Wayfinder lessons, supported by counselors who assist in its implementation. This initiative aims to help students navigate the challenges of middle school, particularly during the tumultuous period of adolescence.

Subscribe for Free Counselors also introduced various wellness initiatives, including a Wellness Room equipped with calming resources such as couches, games, and noise-canceling headphones. This space is designed for students needing a break during the school day. Additionally, the school features a therapy dog that visits monthly, along with farm animal visits to promote emotional well-being.
The event showcased the numerous extracurricular activities available to students, emphasizing community-building efforts. Ralston organizes events like a semi-formal winter dance, lunchtime competitions, and a welcome back barbecue that attracts hundreds of families. The school’s WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) program facilitates social integration, pairing new sixth graders with student leaders to help them acclimate to their new environment.
Sports offerings were also highlighted, with Ralston competing in the Art David Sports League. Students can participate in various sports throughout the year, including volleyball, basketball, and track and field. The school collaborates with the Marine Science Institute, allowing students to engage in hands-on learning about local watersheds and environmental stewardship.
Looking ahead, the orientation for incoming sixth graders is scheduled for August 7, 2025, where students will receive their schedules and participate in team-building activities. The school aims to create a welcoming atmosphere, ensuring that students feel connected and supported as they embark on their middle school journey.
