Eau Claire City Council approves three-year soccer park agreement with Eau Claire United Soccer

Eau Claire City Council has approved a three-year agreement with Eau Claire United Soccer, solidifying the use of the local soccer park for the organization’s extensive programming. The decision, made during the council meeting on April 22, 2025, aims to streamline the fee structure for both Eau Claire United and the Amateur Sports Organization (ASO), ensuring equitable rates for park usage.

Pat Newkirk, the recreation division manager, presented the agreement, highlighting Eau Claire United's long-standing history since its establishment in 1995. The organization serves youth from ages 4 to high school, focusing on competitive soccer and offering programs like the MLS Go introductory level and the adaptive TOPS soccer program for varying abilities.

The new agreement includes a flat fee for base usage, with a 12% increase in fees planned for each of the next two years. This adjustment is designed to align the rates between Eau Claire United and ASO, which has been operating at a lower fee. Councilmember Miller raised questions about the fee increases, seeking clarity on whether similar adjustments would be seen across other areas of the parks and recreation budget. Newkirk confirmed that these changes are specific to the soccer agreement and part of a broader effort to standardize fees for park usage.

The agreement is expected to enhance the local soccer scene, with Eau Claire United anticipating around 40 teams participating in their upcoming home tournament, further boosting community engagement and local economy through events and concessions. The council's approval marks a significant step in supporting youth sports and recreational activities in Eau Claire.
