Chamblee City Council approves $1M for Malouf generator and streetscape enhancements

DeKalb County officials have approved a significant funding request aimed at enhancing infrastructure and compliance with local development codes. During the OPS Committee Meeting on April 1, 2025, the committee voted to extend a contract with Hawk Construction Company for a total amount not to exceed $1,000,736. This funding will facilitate the installation of new removable structures at the Malouf generator site and additional improvements at the Walloo parking lot, as mandated by the city of Chamblee.

The approved request includes essential construction work to meet the Land Development Permit (LDP) requirements, which were updated in January 2025. Key components of the project involve the installation of sidewalks, trees, street lights, and shrubs, all aimed at enhancing the area’s streetscape and ensuring compliance with city codes. The project is expected to contribute to erosion control and improve overall site aesthetics.

Commissioners expressed concerns regarding the implications of city regulations on county projects, particularly the necessity of adhering to local zoning requirements. Discussions highlighted the need for clarity on the relationship between county and city authorities in managing development projects. The committee acknowledged the importance of timely completion of the work to secure a certificate of occupancy, with hopes to open the site by July 2025.
