La Habra community center expands senior programs with health screenings and social activities

The City of La Habra's Community Services Commission meeting on April 9, 2025, highlighted the city's robust offerings for its senior population, showcasing a variety of programs aimed at enhancing health, wellness, and community engagement. The tax services, provided by AARP, have been particularly popular, with a waitlist indicating high demand.

Another highlight was the success of the monthly senior dances, which have seen attendance grow from 40 to 165 participants over the past year. These events not only provide entertainment but also foster social connections among seniors, featuring live music and full-course meals, thanks to sponsorship from the Lions Club.

Health initiatives were also a key topic, with partnerships established with Providence St. Jude for health lectures and screenings. These services have proven beneficial, with many seniors taking advantage of free screenings and educational sessions on topics such as heart disease and medication management.

The meeting concluded with discussions about future plans, including the renovation of facilities to create a dedicated senior center, which will extend hours and programming options. This initiative aims to provide a more permanent space for seniors to gather, socialize, and participate in activities.
