Wicomico Council honors Reese Howard and Parkside athletes for championship victories

The Wicomico County Council held a legislative meeting on May 6, 2025, where several notable proclamations were presented to local student-athletes for their outstanding achievements in sports.

The meeting began with a recognition of Reese Howard, a pole vaulter from Parkside High School, who recently won the 2A state championship. Kimberly Pollut, the athletic director at Parkside, expressed gratitude on behalf of Howard, who was unable to attend due to competing in the Bayside tournament. Pollut shared that Howard is set to continue his athletic career at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Following this, the council honored the Wicomico High School Unified Strength and Conditioning Team for winning a gold medal at the Unified State Tournament. Councilman James Wynne presented the certificate of recognition, and a representative from the team thanked the council for the acknowledgment, noting that many team members were participating in the Bayside tournament.

The meeting concluded with a proclamation for Mabel Woodbeard, also from Parkside High School, who won the Bayside Championship in wrestling. Councilman Josh Hastings presented the recognition, highlighting the significant achievement in a challenging sport.
