Velocity dance team wins multiple awards at competitions in Wheeling Park and Ocean City

The Berkeley County Board of Education meeting on May 5, 2025, highlighted the impressive achievements of local students in dance and science. The Velocity dance team showcased their recent successes, including a first-place win in hip hop and best choreography at the Wheeling Park dance invitational, as well as multiple awards at the Reach the Beach national championship in Ocean City, Maryland. The team expressed gratitude for the support from parents and the community, emphasizing their aspirations to compete at the national level in the upcoming year.

During the meeting, members of the dance team introduced themselves and shared their favorite styles of dance, with many expressing a passion for jazz and pom. Board members congratulated the students on their hard work and extended an invitation to attend one of their performances, scheduled for Thursday at Martinsburg High School.

In addition to the dance achievements, the meeting also celebrated five students who excelled in the West Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair and the State Social Studies Fair. These students had to win first place at their school, county, and regional levels to qualify for the state competition, showcasing their dedication and talent in their respective fields.

The meeting underscored the importance of community support in fostering student success and highlighted the diverse talents present within Berkeley County Schools.
