Basha Indoor Percussion Ensemble earns 13th state title and competes in Dayton

During the Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) Governing Board meeting on May 7, 2025, a highlight was the recognition of the Basha Indoor Percussion Ensemble (BIPE) for their impressive achievements at the WGI Winter Guard International World Championship in Dayton, Ohio.

Board member Serrano introduced the ensemble, which is primarily made up of students from the Basha Bear Regiment marching band, although auditions are open to all Basha High School students. This year, BIPE secured their thirteenth state title in Arizona, showcasing their talent and dedication.

The journey to the national competition involved significant logistics, as transporting students, instruments, props, and uniforms 1,900 miles required careful planning. At the WGI competition, which featured 64 ensembles from across the country, BIPE performed exceptionally well, ranking sixth in their group and ultimately placing thirteenth overall. This achievement allowed them to qualify for both the semifinals and finals, marking a significant milestone for the ensemble.

The board expressed pride in the students, band directors, and staff for their representation of CUSD and Arizona at such a prestigious event. The ensemble's success is attributed to the hard work of band director Miles Denny, associate band director Alisa Travis, and the dedicated ensemble staff. The support from families and boosters was also acknowledged as crucial to their accomplishments.

This recognition not only celebrates the students' hard work but also highlights the importance of arts programs in schools, fostering community pride and student engagement. As CUSD continues to support its music programs, the achievements of groups like BIPE serve as an inspiration for future students.
