Edgar County health department establishes new medical reserve corps for emergency response

In a recent meeting held on May 8, 2025, at the Edgar County Health Department, community members gathered to discuss the formation of a new Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) aimed at enhancing emergency preparedness in the region. The initiative, led by Connor Dodson, the emergency preparedness director, seeks to recruit volunteers who will provide non-medical support during emergencies, such as natural disasters or public health crises.

The meeting, attended by approximately 15 to 20 community members, highlighted the importance of collaboration between local volunteers and health department staff. Participants shared insights from previous experiences, including the successful establishment of a robust medical reserve in Douglas County. The community is preparing for an influx of individuals, some of whom may camp out for days to secure treatment.
