Lake Jackson adds second animal control officer for proactive pet management

The police department has also upgraded its kennel facilities, allowing for better care of animals found after hours.

The discussions highlighted the challenges faced by local shelters, particularly regarding the intake of kittens, which cannot be accepted until they are weaned. This has contributed to an increased workload for the animal control team, prompting the need for additional staffing.

The council also touched on the rising costs of animal shelter construction in nearby areas, emphasizing the importance of effective animal control programs. Although previous attempts at implementing a trap-neuter-return (TNR) program for feral cats were mentioned, it appears that such initiatives have not been pursued actively in the region.
