Los Banos city council approves credit card payments and plans park openings

The City Council of Los Banos held a meeting on May 7, 2025, where several important updates and announcements were made regarding city services and projects.

One of the key highlights was the announcement from Finance Director Annie Moreno that starting July 1, the city will begin accepting credit card payments at all municipal locations. Parks and Recreation Director Joe Helm shared exciting news about upcoming events and projects. A ceremonial check celebration is scheduled for May 17 at Colorado Ballpark, marking the conclusion of the Little League regular season and celebrating a $1 million funding secured by Assemblywoman Story for the Colorado Ballpark project. Helm also mentioned the anticipated soft opening of Sunrise Ranch park on May 12, although some features, such as park lights, will not be fully operational for several weeks. Additionally, progress is expected on the Shaughnessy Village project in the coming month.

Police Chief Reyna reported on two significant developments. He expressed gratitude to the Los Banos Junior High School for allowing him to speak to eighth-grade students about law enforcement. He also announced the arrival of a new mobile speed trailer, which will be deployed around town to help address traffic concerns, particularly in the Las Palmas area.

City Engineer Bircheson informed the council that the city is soliciting construction proposals for storm drain metering, with a deadline in two weeks. He also noted that work on the Pioneer and Articulate intersection will require temporary closures for water main installation starting the week of May 19.
