Eden Prairie Schools awarded Heritage Preservation honor at city council meeting

Eden Prairie Schools have been honored with the 2025 Heritage Preservation Award for their significant contributions to the community's historical resources. This recognition was announced during the City Council meeting on May 6, 2025, marking the ninth year of the award's presentation.

The award highlights the school's efforts in celebrating a century of educational history, particularly focusing on the consolidated school built in 1924. This historic building, which originally featured modern amenities like electricity and central heating, now serves as the administrative offices for the school district.

Key to the award was the restoration of the school's gymnasium, a project undertaken by the Eden Prairie Historical Society and the Gym Task Force, which includes members from the schools and the historical society. The gym has been preserved as a functional space and a community landmark, showcasing the commitment to maintaining Eden Prairie's educational heritage.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary, Eden Prairie Schools collaborated with the Historical Society to host a citywide prom in the historic gym, alongside a gallery of artifacts, guided tours, and a family fun day. These events successfully engaged the community, allowing residents of all ages to connect with the gym's legacy.

The integration of interior branding, a commemorative plaque, and exterior signage has further elevated the gym's status as a vital piece of Eden Prairie's history.
