Charleston County enhances probate services with online document filing at libraries

Charleston County residents will soon enjoy enhanced access to probate services thanks to a new initiative aimed at simplifying the filing process. During a recent virtual workshop held by the Charleston County Probate Court, officials announced that individuals can now probate an estate online for a nominal fee of less than $10, eliminating the need to travel downtown for in-person filings.

The initiative allows residents to file an unlimited number of documents electronically, making the process more convenient and accessible. For those without personal technology, local libraries are stepping up to assist. With plans to expand to 18 or 19 libraries, residents can utilize these renovated, high-tech facilities to complete their filings with the help of staff.

Residents were encouraged to review their tax returns and explore the state’s unclaimed funds website, which may hold money owed to them or their family members.
