West Fargo Library reports increased overall circulation despite drop in physical returns

The West Fargo Public Library Board meeting on May 8, 2025, highlighted several key updates regarding library usage, programming, and upcoming events. The meeting revealed that while physical circulation of library items saw a slight decline in April, digital circulation experienced a significant increase, leading to overall higher circulation numbers. The library recorded 461 items checked out and welcomed 390 visitors through its doors during the month.

A notable shift in visitor traffic was attributed to the scheduling of school tours, with many tours moved from April to May. This change is expected to impact the door count, which will be monitored in the coming weeks. Additionally, the usage of off-site book drops has decreased, likely due to the opening of a new satellite location, prompting discussions about the future of the remaining book drop at Cash Wise.

Youth programming continues to thrive, with over a thousand children participating in second-grade tours. Recent events included a nineties-themed family craft night and a popular Minecraft-themed craft event that filled both meeting rooms and the hallway. Storytime sessions remain well-attended, featuring a special performance by the cast of Shiloh Christian Academy's "Newsies Junior."

Adult programming is also flourishing, particularly with movie matinees that have reached capacity, leading to considerations for additional showings or alternative activities. The library's outreach efforts have been active, participating in National Library Week and preparing for a "Library on Wheels" initiative to engage with the community in parks.

Looking ahead, the library will host a used books and media sale on May 17, and a summer kickoff party on May 29, featuring snacks, crafts, and games. The summer reading program will launch on June 2, with various events planned, including a partnership with local public libraries for a Red Hawks library night on June 5.
