The Pickens County Board of Education celebrated significant achievements in student and staff recognition during its meeting on May 8, 2025. The event highlighted the accomplishments of students across various programs, showcasing their talents and hard work.
Among the notable achievements, the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program shone brightly with students finishing eleventh in the nation for poultry evaluation, a remarkable feat considering the competition from all 50 states. Individual recognitions included Alaina Hilton, Bryson Loomis, and Jonathan Rodney, each placing fourth in the state for agriculture sales. Additionally, several students qualified for state competitions in livestock evaluation, further demonstrating the program's strength.

Subscribe for Free The Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) also celebrated a top-five regional finisher, with Miss Hony recognized for her sponsorship. The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and Technology Student Association (TSA) were not left out, with students achieving impressive rankings in state competitions, including Zoe Kelly and Farrah Jones, who placed seventh and ninth, respectively.
The meeting also honored the district's Teachers of the Year, with six educators recognized for their exceptional contributions to education. A banquet is scheduled for next Tuesday to crown the district's Teacher of the Year. Additionally, the board acknowledged retiring staff members, celebrating their years of service and dedication to the community.
