Chaska City Council approves tax abatement for Beckman Coulter expansion project

Chaska City Council has taken a significant step towards supporting local economic growth by authorizing the city administrator to sign a letter of intent for tax abatement to facilitate the expansion of Beckman Coulter. During the meeting on May 6, 2025, city officials discussed the details of this $50 million expansion project, which is expected to add 48,000 square feet to the facility and create up to 300 new jobs over the next two to three years.

Economic Development Director Julie Grove highlighted that Beckman Coulter has already secured grants from the Minnesota Investment Fund and the Job Creation Fund to assist with job creation and capital investments. The proposed tax abatement, which amounts to approximately $1.39 million over a 12-year period, aims to support this expansion and related public infrastructure improvements, particularly the resurfacing of Lake Hazeltine Drive.

The council emphasized that the tax abatement is a strategic tool used to stimulate economic development, attract and retain businesses, and improve public infrastructure. The road improvements are particularly crucial, as many streets in the industrial parks have deteriorated over the years due to increased traffic and outdated construction methods.
