Baldwin Park's Recreation Commission meeting on May 5, 2025, highlighted the success of recent community events, particularly a two-day pickleball tournament that attracted over 40 participants from various cities. The tournament, supported by local sponsors like Raising Canes, Gearbox, and Jigsaw, provided participants with T-shirts and medals, fostering community engagement and promoting the sport.
The Recreation Commission announced the addition of three new pickleball nets, donated by Raising Canes, which will enhance public access to the sport. Pickleball sessions are now available to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 PM to 9 PM, drawing players from Baldwin Park and neighboring cities such as Azusa and West Covina. This initiative aims to improve community connections and overall quality of life through recreational activities.
In addition to pickleball, the meeting recapped the successful Springfest and egg hunt held on April 19, which featured free activities such as inflatable jumpers, arts and crafts, and a butterfly exhibit. The event attracted a large turnout, with over 22,000 eggs distributed among various age groups, including a special inclusive area for children with special needs. The inclusive egg hunt was particularly well-received, with nearly 100 participants, showcasing the city's commitment to providing accessible recreational opportunities for all.
The Recreation Commission plans to evaluate the possibility of introducing a nominal fee for pickleball in the future and is actively seeking grants to expand pickleball facilities, including potential new courts at Morgan Park. These developments reflect Baldwin Park's ongoing efforts to enhance community engagement through diverse recreational programs.
