The upcoming two-year capital budget aims to minimize the impact on the general fund by utilizing special revenue accounts and developer impact fees. However, officials acknowledged that funding for capital projects remains a challenge due to current revenue levels.
Key projects highlighted include the Interconnect Phase 2 for signal synchronization, Vista Del Sol roadway construction, and essential infrastructure work for affordable housing developments. The city is actively seeking grants to support these initiatives, including a significant application for funding related to the construction of Via Vale.
The council also reviewed plans for public parking lot improvements near Rancho Mirage Community Park, with an estimated cost of $3 million, and ongoing efforts for the Frank Sinatra Low Water Crossing project, which is currently in the design phase.
As the city moves forward, officials emphasized the importance of leveraging various funding sources to ensure that essential projects can proceed without placing undue strain on the general fund. The proactive approach taken by the Rancho Mirage City Council aims to enhance community services and infrastructure while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
