Ridgewood Council finalizes Hawes Field renovation and new paramedic staging agreement

The Village Council of Ridgewood celebrated significant progress on local projects during their recent meeting, highlighting the completion of renovations at Hawes Field and plans for enhanced emergency medical services.

The Hawes Field renovation is now substantially complete, with all sod laid and snow fencing installed to protect the new grass as it establishes itself ahead of the spring season. Council members expressed gratitude to the parks division and contractors for their efforts. Additionally, tree pruning will be conducted semi-annually to maintain scenic views for residents, addressing concerns raised by community members.

In another key development, the council announced a pre-construction meeting for the lighting project at Yvette's Field, with materials expected to arrive by January 6. The council is also pursuing additional funding for the girls' softball field, having secured a $103,000 grant from Bergen County to support ongoing improvements.

Further updates included plans for the town garage demolition, with permits anticipated soon, and a collaborative effort with Valley Hospital to station a paramedic unit at Douglas Place. This initiative aims to enhance emergency response times, especially following the hospital's relocation to Paramus. The paramedic unit will operate Monday through Friday, improving local access to emergency services.

The council plans to circulate a license agreement with Valley Hospital for approval in early January, paving the way for these critical enhancements to community safety and recreational facilities.
