The Oakdale Planning Commission has taken a significant step towards enhancing the visibility of the Forefront Technology and Office campus by approving an amendment for a new pylon sign at 3490 Hayward Avenue North. This decision, made during the December 5, 2024, meeting, allows for the installation of a 50-foot tall sign with two faces, each measuring 350 square feet.

The proposed sign exceeds the city’s standard regulations, which permit pylon signs to be only 30 feet tall with a maximum of 150 square feet per face. However, the site is part of a Planned Unit Development (PUD) established in 1997, which provides flexibility in zoning regulations if a public benefit is demonstrated. The applicant argued that the additional signage would enhance branding for the Forefront campus, which is home to various businesses, including a third-party logistics site.

The Planning Commission noted that the new sign would be strategically placed to avoid clutter and maintain the aesthetic of the area, which currently features 13 existing signs across the 120-acre campus. The design and materials of the proposed sign were also deemed consistent with the existing signage, ensuring a cohesive look for the campus.

While the amendment has been approved, the applicant must still obtain a building permit before proceeding with the installation of the sign. This development is expected to improve the campus's visibility from Interstate 694, potentially attracting more businesses and visitors to the area.
