Town Council approves John G. Lisonbee Jr. as North Kingstown fire chief

The North Kingstown Town Council meeting on May 12, 2025, focused on the appointment of John G. Lisonbee Jr. as the new fire chief of the North Kingstown Fire Department. The meeting began with a recognition of former Fire Chief Scott Catell, who received a lifetime achievement award from the Providence chapter of ASIS International. Town Manager's request for the council's advice and consent on Lisonbee's appointment highlighted his extensive experience within the department, having served since 1990 and held the position of Assistant Fire Chief since 2022. Lisonbee's qualifications include developing operational guidelines, overseeing recruitment, and managing the department's response to COVID-19. He also has a military background, having served in the United States Navy Reserve until 2011.

The Town Manager emphasized Lisonbee's leadership skills and the respect he commands within the department, noting that he has successfully filled the role of interim fire chief since January 2025. Following a series of interviews and discussions with department members, the Town Manager concluded that Lisonbee is the best candidate to lead the fire department moving forward.

Lisonbee expressed gratitude to the council, the town manager, and his fellow firefighters, acknowledging the support of his family and the legacy of his predecessor, Chief Catell. The council unanimously approved Lisonbee's appointment, with a formal ceremony to follow in the coming weeks, inviting the public to celebrate this new leadership in the North Kingstown Fire Department.
